In 1513, Vasco Núñez de Balboa — a leader of remarkable fortitude, courage and diplomatic intelligence — followed a rumor of a South Sea through impossible terrain. He did not discover the Pacific Ocean. He arrived at it, having trusted that rumor that something vast lay beyond the known world. El Legado del Conquistador recovers this largely unknown Balboa: the one who heard the voice and crossed the impossible jungle of the Darién to arrive at waters that exceeded everything he had imagined.
